Bonjour! This week was a short week!
On Wednesday, we had 10 students away, most of them were at our district's swim meet! Today 4 students were away so it was a wise decision to not start to many new things! In Math, here are the concepts that we have and will be covering in the next couple of weeks:
In Health and Career:
That's about it for Mme Nancy! **A reminder that on Track and Field days ( Tuesdays and Fridays) your child should be wearing comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water. Homework has to been handed in every Monday or on Wednesday when Monday is a holiday. And Monday is our library day! Have a good week end! Happy Friday everyone!
After neglecting this blog for a while, I decided to update it, FINALY! Sorry for the delay... So here we are! In Math:
http://www.whetung.com/odjig.html
The class has voted to use the song `Happy` for one of our school production in May. We are in the process of translating it and putting dance moves to it. We also are going to choose a book that we like and transform into a play. We are hoping to have the play ready for June 3rd, for the annual French Theatre Festival, at the Sagebrush Theatre. We will keep you posted! Community Event: Every year, Mme Nancy helps organize `Jeans Day`, a fundraiser for BC Children's hospital. This year, Jeans Day is happening on Thursday, April 30th. The children have created posters which they are presenting to the classrooms of South Sahali Elementary. Starting next week, we will be collecting money towards this event. A school letter will be sent home via Mme Holm. With a donation of 5$, children will be given a button to wear on the 30th, with their favorite jeans attire. A donation of 20$ will give them a pin, and a tax receipt! Any monetary donations will be accepted. Thank you! Have a good week end! Nancy et Melissa We had another great week!
In Math:
I have also given them other options such as making a poster, using a folder (lap book), or using a program such as Power point ( we have 2 laptops in the classroom that could be used by children). In Language Arts EN FRANCAIS:
***A reminder that Tuesday, the class is going skiing to Stake Lake... have fun!! ***** We only have one box of kleenex left... please send one to school if you are able to...thanks so much! ******This week, we will be review the rule for the ``feminin`` and will be writing about our favorite sports team ( because it is feminin... UNE ÉQUIPE DE...) and it is linked to our book and video Le chandail de hockey. If possible, have your child come to school, on Monday, with the name of their favorite team. I understand that not everyone has one! It can also be a famous female athlete.... ( could be an artist, author, teacher). Thanks! Enjoy the snow! Nancy Happy New Year everyone, welcome back! We started the year a little late, but, all is good now! Because of the amount of snow outside please make sure that your child comes to school with proper clothing to play outside during recess time, thank you! Flu and cold season are still out there! Can we ask for a box of kleenex to be sent to school, if you haven't sent one yet. Thanks! THIS WEEK, we've learned... In Maths:
We all have chosen the explorer that we will be be researching for. Thanks to parents who had the time to help their child make that choice during the holidays. Only the children who were absent this week did not get to choose ( or tell me). The homework until next Wednesday is to find out:
We talked about the importance of understanding what we are reading and rephrasing it in our own words...not copying from a book or Internet. All of our work will be done in FRENCH, books provided in class will also be in French. Finally, most of the project will be done in class. Please don't have your child make a poster at home, etc. On our Internet link page, on the left, I will post two websites to look at in Social Studies. Mme Hunter has also posted a few under our teacher names on her School library website. In Health and Carreer: We are starting to learn about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. So far, we talked about:
Here is the link to the grade 4 curriculums, if you are interested in finding out what your child will be learning. https://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/irp/curric_grade_packages/gr4curric_req.pdf MERCI! With Mme Linthorne We are currently working on our Habitats unit in Science, Measurement in Math, a whole class novel study in English and basketball in PE. All the details are included in my overview (just click on the file below). We are also going to Stake Lake on Tuesday January 20, 2015. There is no cost for this trip and the permission slip will be going home this week due back by Friday January 16 at the latest!
Well...here we are again! Sorry for the delay!
This is what we have worked on lately: Math:
Social Studies: We are learning about explorers. We started with the Vikings and will do a class projetct to help us make our own after XMas. During the holidays it would be a good idea to decide which explorer your child would be interested in researching more.

Another short week over!
Thanks for sending items for our Raffle basket! Come and see the new art projects in the hallway! Most of them are up (still a few unfinished ones). In Math:
Have a wonderful week end! Nancy This week in Math:
Thanks! Have a great week end! Nancy et Melissa Math
We are still working on patterns with Mme Linthorne. Avec Mme Nancy: -review of place value to hundredths -review of multiplication facts -problem solving (written questions) finding key words to understand which operation to use (+ or -) -finish our data analysis unit -rounding numbers: 92=90, 127=130 for example Science In science, students have started a research project on extreme weather events. As of right now, they have just chosen their topic: thunderstorm, blizzard, drought, hurricane, tornado or tsunami. We will start answering specific questions about these extreme weather events this coming week. This project will start with a rough copy of answers to 4 questions, then a good copy and then a presentation of the information. If you have any books at home that might help, please bring them in! English Spelling test on Friday November 7, 2014 In English, we are focusing on Triple Scoop words which is a fun way of looking at synonyms. Students generate synonyms with a partner and create a nine scoop ice cream cone (eg: nine synonyms for the word 'fun'). These cones are put on the wall in the classroom to be used when editing writing. This give students a wider vocabulary which will make his/her writing more interesting and descriptive. I am also currently working on individual reading evaluations as well as whole class reading assignments that focus on questioning and connecting to the story. In Social Studies: -review of the map of the world -please write in your child's agenda information about where your family is from ( great grandparents to parents) -QUIZZ in 2 weeks French reading: -we are asking ourselves questions as we read -we have started to write in a response journal -copying key words to perfect our writing; using tools from around the classroom to find words and edit our work FIne Arts: -outing at the Sagebrush T. -begin our Group of Seven Unit; study of
A reminder that your child is expected to write in his-her homework journal. We want them to record what they have worked on at home in their journal as well as completing their homework. Thank you and have a great week end! Good evening!
Well...let's say that this week was a different week! We had an art day on Monday, 2 presentations in the gym (Monday and Thursday), an outing at the Salmon Run, and a Professional day tomorrow! Wow! In Math: -reviewed place value ( centaines, dizaines et unités) -reviewed telling time to the hour, counting minutes by groups of 5 -reviewed multiplication facts ( x0, x1, x2, x5, x10); children need to be able to:
Come and check out your child's poster in the hallway! We are also finishing a short description of ourselves based on a funny book we read: `Le grand Antonio`. We will post them out in the hallway soon! Our Art unit will finally begin next week and we will continue discovering continents and oceans in Social Studies. Oh yes, we will also talk about Halloween...just a little bit! We will keep you posted about what will happen on Halloween day. There is a dance for Intermediate students on Friday afternoon. Other options will also be offered to students who do not wish to attend the dance. Dates to remember:
